★ ★ ★ ★ ★“Loved this book! This story follows Jessica a nonverbal autistic child trying to survive in her horrible foster home. She finds an escape through her bedroom mirror that takes her to a world where she can talk and isn’t tormented by touch and sound. There is something wrong with this world and the children in the upside down house. She later finds out why the mirror was placed in her bedroom.
This is a great story. Mirrors have always scared me and this story activated more fears. I really enjoyed this story and am glad this was my first read of 2025. I recommend it to everyone.”
★ ★ ★ ★ ★“Jessica is a nonverbal autistic character, and first of, I want to commend Edmund for his handling of neurodiversity and disability. He took a character that could easily have been an unfortunate stereotype, and made her as wonderfully complex as she deserved to be. 5 stars for that alone! Then there’s the world building…oh my gosh! I was drawn into the mirror world right alongside Jessica, equally horrified and captivated. I sped through this one, and was devastated when it was done!”
★ ★ ★ ★ ★“It makes me happy that Edmund Stone has a main character who is neurodivergent and shows Jessica as a complex character. She is non-verbal, but we know from her thoughts and actions that she is a courageous girl who has been dealt a bad hand. She lives with abusive foster parents and then also has to handle what really lies in the soul mirror. I was so intrigued by this novel that I didn’t realize how much I read until I looked down. It flows so well, and the idea of the mirror world captivated me. The mirror world is mysterious and hypnotizing. I wasn’t surprised that Jessica viewed it as an escape. Soul Mirror will suck you in as it did with Jessica and Renay (Jessica’s occupational therapist). I really loved this emotionally suspenseful book!”
We’re looking forward to working with Edmund!
